Going on

Some days I feel so tired that I don't want to get out of bed. I don't want to get up and face another day made harder than it should be because of my own mistakes and failures. Do you know what I mean?

I know that God is good and will provide everything I need, but sometimes I am in need of some encouragement that I can in fact do the work I am called to do. Sometimes the task of building a home--a safe haven for my family, a soft nest to cradle them, a secure launching pad for them--seems too daunting.

But look what I found in my garage, on the shelf where I store extra pantry staples:

Do you see it? Look closer:

I wasn't expecting to find a blessing in the box of canned tomatoes. But there it was. A reminder that I am not the only one hard at work. We work together, we parents of all kinds, and we can encourage one another on our journeys. Thank God.

  1. O my sweet bird. I love how all of God's creations worships him by simply doing that for which they were created. What a sweet blessing. And props to you for seeing that as a gift rather than a bother :)

  2. Richella, What a wonderful reminder of God's love, he provides for the birds and how much more he provides and cares for us! I know what you mean about the daunting task's that are involved with raising boys, I have been there, mine are 20 and 23 now, and making their own way in the world, for the first time in my life I am truly learning to trust and realizing it is not up to me anymore, it never was. I just thought I had all this control over my life and my children's lives. God bless. Marla

  3. God is good...always leaving us little reminders of His presence and love!

One of the first bible verses my youngest learned in school was the birds of the air verse. Something we all need to focus on...

    Enjoy!

  4. I love this, Richella. This birdie did what it needed to do to provide for it's family--but ultimately God provided for them--even the little-bird-creativity to take advantage of your open box!

  5. What a creative bird mommy! And what a sweet testimony to the comfort of your home. Even Mama bird feels it's a safe cozy place for her babies.

  7. I know exactly what you mean. I think all of us mothers feel that way at one time or another. I spend a lot of time in prayer asking God to cover my mistakes, and thankfully He is able to do just that. Keep trusting Him, he will always send you the little lift that you need. Carla

  8. How sweet. I had a nest built in my summer wreath one year, took lots of pictures and we could see the little blue eggs too, and the baby birds once they hatched, it was wonderful to see. Had to toss the wreath out though, it got full of bird poop!!

  10. Hi Richella,
How lovely! What a gentle reminder for you, found at just the right time! I've been there in the same place as you, it is overwhelming sometimes to have the responsibility to nurture and create a safe haven for others, to always having to be there for them. Just take it a bit at a time. That's the best anyone can do!
Blessings to you on this fine day.

  12. Beautiful post Richella! How sweet is that?! I can so relate to this and we know it is so worth it...just very hard at times. I was thinking along the same lines that maybe why I love birds so much is they are just trying to care for their young and build their nest. Thank you for a great reminder.

    Hugs to you,
    Victoria

  13. Oh wow!
That mama knew you had a safe haven for her to rest in... she knew she could escape from the ways of the world and be in complete joy hearing the sounds of you and the boys living life!
    God Bless!

  17. Yes....some days I really don't want to get up because I know that I will be 'under the gun' all day long...or should be. Defeated before I get up...yes. Discouraged by my own desire to just avoid it a few minutes longer...yes. Disappointed by my own laziness...yes. But I am thankful for forgiveness and the newness of another morning "fresh with no mistakes in it' - yet. But God's grace will be there again when I need it....two seconds from 'fresh.' Blessings on your 'fresh' Wednesday morning, friend. (I do agree with Bonita. You're feathered friend knows your home IS a safe haven.)
