Or the one on the left in this picture?
Yes, that one.
He's 19 years old today.
Nineteen years ago, he was a brand-new baby. And I was a brand-new mama.
Not that I mind that he has only one more year to be a teenager. Or two more years to be a minor. No, I don't mind at all. Not a bit. I don't miss those days of having a sweet little baby with curly red hair. I don't long for the days when he was a baby in my arms. I don't miss rocking him to sleep. I don't dream of the days when I was teaching him to walk and talk. Or read and write. Or ride a bike. Or drive a car. Oh, no. Not me.
Of course not.
happy birthday to him! and i can just imagine how much you are not missing those things right now... love to you!
ReplyDeleteGoodness, he's lovely. My own youngest son was 19 on Friday. Doesn't time fly? When I look at him I know I did something right with my life.
ReplyDeleteAwwww...Happy Birthday!! Oh, time passes so quickly.
ReplyDeleteSuch a handsome guy! :) Happy Birthday to him...and many more! I'm going to go love on my little ones right now. :)
ReplyDeleteI was blessed to hold a sleeping toddler for an hour in the church nursery yesterday. My youngest is just 7, and I so miss those baby days!!! It makes me so much more grateful for and intentional about enjoying the present, as I know you do, too! blessings!
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you. Caden just turned 16 a couple of weeks ago and he is my only one. It goes by quickly.

Richella, this is such a sweet reminder for those of us who are teaching little ones to read and write and talk (not in that order of course) to hold tightly to each and every moment.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your always sweet comments. I want to frame every one of them. Yes, I'm so thankful that my parents began the beach trip tradition with us and that all four of us kids (and spouses) equally love being together for that one week every year. Holidays are tricky because of in-laws and schedules. We don't get every Christmas together anymore but we know we always have our beach week.
Hope your big (baby) boy had a great birthday!
I love denial!
ReplyDeleteHope had has a wonderful birthday.
