I look at the weather forecast for North Carolina this week, and here's what I see:
Tue 9/21 Hi: 88 Lo: 63
Wed 9/22 Hi: 92 Lo: 66
Thu 9/23 Hi: 95 Lo: 67
Fri 9/24 Hi: 91 Lo: 65
And I complain. I so long for fallish weather. I want to do fallish things. I want to wear sweaters.
But then I look at the calendar, and I am reminded that no matter what the temperature is, this is the week of the Autumnal Equinox. No matter what I might be doing or not doing, the days go by. The seasons change. And I am reminded:
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest--
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above--
Join with all nature in manifold witness
Of Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see!
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided--
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.
So whether I'm wearing shorts and sandals or a sweater and boots, I'll unpack the pumpkins.
Fall comes not because it feels like Fall to me, but because God says so. And I am grateful.

Thank you for that! I needed it.
ReplyDeleteYep, when I get up to take the kid to school and I am sporting shorts and flip flops and so is he... I live in NC!! I love it though- just means winter is going to be COLD and long :) I got out my meager fall decor this fall, I need to get a few more things...
ReplyDeleteYep, pull out the fall stuff and go with the flow. It's all in His timing.
ReplyDeleteDon't know why we are raining and raining here in Oregon just as our house exterior is getting painted but it's small stuff compared to big stuff so I'm trying hard to just "be." Long summer for you, early rains for us.
I'll swap with you. The high today here is 99 degrees and is going to be in the 90s for the next week. I still haven't gotten my fall things out yet...not because I'm not in the mood, but because it is just too dang hot to go in the attic and get it ;o)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reality check. I've been wishing Fall along, but it'll be here soon enough. I love your pumpkins!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is good. Really good. It's not all about me...It's because HE said so. Thank you for this!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful words Richella. I adore fall as well. Come on sweater weather. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that song! We're having summer-like weather this week too, but it's cooler at night so the leaves are getting tinges of color.
ReplyDeleteI am longing for the cooler temperatures of fall in NC, but just said to someone today that it was coming with or without the cooler temps. My fall decor has been out since Sept 1st b/c fall is my favorite season. It just reminds me that just like the trees are shedding their leaves, that is how Christ removes our sins. One layer at a time and what lies beneath is beautiful.

This is very true. It is ridiculously hot here, as well, but I can't complain, because at least it's cool enough to play outside in the morning & evening.
ReplyDeleteoh i love that! because God says so! He sure does :) here we are forcasted for hot, too... i am longing for pumpkins, but i think i might have to wait til octber 1st!! hope it cools down next week!
ReplyDeleteBecause God says so! That is a great one. Enjoy putting it out.
ReplyDeleteBut, a cool front is heading your way this weekend or Monday. I'm planning a little time on the deck Sunday afternoon. (suppose to be in the low 80's or upper 70's.)

Just reading the words to that wonderful hymn makes my eyes water! Thank you so much for sharing that today and isn't it a comfor to know that God ordained the seasons right from the Beginning! :-)
ReplyDeleteVanessa
Love that hymn! And so I should quit my whining, is that what you are suggesting???? :s
ReplyDeleteSuzanne
It is still hot here too! I love your collection of pumpkins. Looks so pretty!!! Hopefully the fall weather will be here soon. Enjoy! Love & blessings from NC!
ReplyDeleteI like the weather this time of year. It's hot during the day, but the evenings have just a touch of cool. It will truly be fall before you know it!
ReplyDeletePumpkins . . . dontcha love it! Happy Fall, my favorite season!
