Today is a beautiful day in North Carolina.
Saturday was not a beautiful day in North Carolina. As you probably know, North Carolina caught quite a bit of the fury of Hurricane Irene.
Now, we live in Durham, which is a couple of hours inland, so hurricanes don't affect us as they affect the coastal areas. Still, we experienced pretty high winds. See this mess in my yard?
Unfortunately, most of this was on our roof just a few minutes before this photo was taken. Actually, a good bit of this was in our roof--sticking right through the shingles and the plywood and coming to rest inside our attic. So now we have some nice big holes in the roof.
You know what's amazing, though? Throughout all that time of high winds, we had no rain. And the temperature was fairly cool--in the high 70's. These tree limbs damaged a part of our roof which is above an attic space. Though the winds raged outside, I was able to get up into the attic with plastic sheeting and staple gun and cover all the holes. (This part of the attic is too small for my 6'7" husband to squeeze into, so I was the one wielding the staple gun--I felt like Rosie the Riveter!) Not a drop of water got into the attic.
Once everything was covered, Jack and I walked outside--and THEN it started raining. Not a drop while our attic was exposed to the elements. What a gift!
What about you? Will you share the story of a gift you've received from God's hand? It can be large or small--I'd love to hear about it! Click here to read all about this new linky party celebrating God's gifts to us. Help yourself to a button and help me spread the word.
Richella, I am so glad that you didn't get water in the attic. God's timing was perfect!
ReplyDeleteDo we need to call you Rosie the Riveter from now on? (smile)
So glad you were able to fit up there in the attic with your plastic sheeting and your staple gun.
Sorry the roof will need repaired...but glad you were not in danger. I can't even imagine what a hurricane is like...but we do have tornadoes in Kansas and they are scary enough for me! In fact on our way to Branson recently we drove through Joplin MO., and it was so sad to see the devastation from that tornado.
Praying for those people and those affected by Irene.
Love, Linda
What a blessing that the rain didn't get through!! We went out of town to visit T's grandmother and took the dog with us, but T's parents came by to check our house for us during the storm. We didn't lose power, and no damage...yay!
ReplyDeleteglad you didn't have more damage. we are about 2 hours west of you and just had a steady breeze all day.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Those limbs are huge! I'm so glad you & your family is safe & there was no further damage. We were hit by the hurricane too but no major damage. It was truly a blessing.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are okay - sorry about the roof! We are fine in Raleigh.
ReplyDeleteWow Richella! Praise God there wasn't more damage done and praying for those who were hit harder by it. Thanks so much for hosting this week!

Goodness! So glad everyone is safe & that no water got into your attic. I love that you found the blessing in the midst of the (literal!) storm.
ReplyDeleteI have thought so much about you and all those other NC girls! Glad you had only minor damage and no rain got in!
ReplyDeleteI have an uncle in NJ and a cousin in VA, so I've been keeping up with them. No damage for my cousin, but her dad (the one in NJ) had a tree in the back yard come down. He had been worried about it blowing down on the house, but thankfully it landed in the pool! So grateful they are all okay and now just have to deal with power being out!
Hope it doesn't take too long to get that roof repaired!
that is an amazing story! so sorry that your roof is holy, but very glad that you didn't end up with puddles inside!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteNo! Richella you had more damage that we did and we are coastal. I'm thankful you are okay after seeing the size of those limbs. Sorry about the damage to your home. I hope it all is fixed very soon. My prayers are with all those affected by this terrible storm.
ReplyDeleteWarmly, ~Melissa
So glad you are safe!! I would love to have seen you up there in your plastic sheeting glory...you are awesome! :) We just got some wind, nothing much to report...thank goodness!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad everyone is okay and that there's no water damage!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm sure you'll get a new roof, so that's something else to be thankful for!
I have been thinking about you so much, and I'm so glad to hear you are all o.k. (Well, except for the part about the roof.) I really wanted to join your linky party this week, but I just can't. Suddenly, the blog has to take a back seat. :(
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing, girl. So happy you were able to get to plastic on. We've been watching the news with tears. So many heartaches from it all.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness everyone was safe as those limbs were coming through your roof. I can't imagine what a noise that must have made. I hope you'll be able to get a repair person in soon to fix your damage.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your roof, but glad you were able to get it fixed before the rain. Somebody loves you! :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing. God is good! Good luck with the cleanup. I look forward to your kinky party.
ReplyDeleteRichella - So glad you & yours are safe. What a blessing you where able to get the plastic up before the rain. I don't know how I have missed your linky party before, but I love it. So inspiring.
ReplyDeleteWhat a testimony, Richella! So glad to hear you're safe.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, Richella! I'm so glad you and your family are alright. Having some huge trees sticking in your roof is no laughing matter. Glad you're ok1
ReplyDeletePraise God! Glad there was no rain in your attic. Sorry your roof has holes in it now, but I know it's a whole lot better than it could've been.
