I noticed a fire truck parked in my neighborhood the other day. No sign of fire, no smell of smoke; just the truck. Then I saw two firefighters walking around holding brushes and cans of red paint.
They were painting the hydrants.
It's been a long time since there was a fire in this neighborhood. But the firefighters diligently painted each hydrant, making sure the giant spigots would be easy to spot if ever they're needed.
It occurred to me this is what we do when we stop to celebrate God's grace. We all know God's grace is there, of course. But if there haven't been any fires in our lives lately, we can forget where our strength comes from. I'm grateful for the chance to pause here each Monday and remember that everything is a gift from God's hand--His grace imparted to us.
Do you have a story of God's grace to share? I'd love to hear it! This linky party is dedicated to celebrate the gifts, large and small, that God gives to us. (Click here if you'd like to read more about it.)
isn't that the truth :) thankful for the days of no fires... and the reminder that whether we think we need Him or not, we DO, and He is here.
ReplyDeleteAnd now, every time you see that red fire hydrant, you will remember! And you are right, we so easily forget grace on the not so tough days. I think that every day grace is really where I live and I easily forget.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It seems like I have been collecting little "God associations" lately. Now I can add fire hydrants to my visual cues to think about God's presence. I love this.
ReplyDeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteYou are best at object lessons!!! Well done. :) A great teaching moment. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Richella, I am enjoying your 31days of Spiritual Formation. I haven't had time to blog lately, however, I am keeping up with what you are doing. I went to see Catie the other day and saw Preston crossing the street. I hope he is doing well. Carla
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this with all of us. What an amazing Father that He's always using the minute and the magnificent to remind of us of His never ending love. Thank you for opening up the opportunity for others to share their story as well.
