Right now I have just one tree photo to share with you. And I didn't take it. But I love it.
Want to know why I love it? Because my 21-year-old son, who is a senior at Duke University right here in our hometown of Durham, North Carolina took it. He brought a group of friends over the first weekend of December and took this nighttime photo of our tree:
Then he posted it on Instagram with this caption: "Just because I'm from Durham doesn't mean I don't miss home."
Do you hear that, you moms? I know you get tired. I know you sometimes wonder if all your work is worth it. You wonder if anyone really appreciates all the work you put into making your home lovely during the holiday season.

I left for work at 6:15 this morning. I taught all day and stayed late to sponsor the literary magazine. I came home and made dinner then hauled my children to the middle school Christmas concert (the elementary concert was last night). I came home and tucked everyone in bed and made lunches for tomorrow. After all that, I put candy in the advent calendar and turned on the Christmas tree lights. I have to admit, our house looks so pretty, and I DO wonder if anyone (other than our lovely babysitter) notices. Boy, did I NEED to hear your words! Thanks for imparting grace. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI love your tree. I know I appreciate my Mom more now than I did as a child. I remind myself of this when my days are long with my own two now. We're doing Kingdom work, right? It's all worth it!
ReplyDeleteThis post is simply beautiful. The words are both comforting and uplifting to mothers everywhere. Yes, on some deeper level we know what we do is important but it's so nice to get this kind of acknowledgement from our kids. Thanks for sharing.

And that ... is one of the best things about being a mom.

ps. You have a spam comment above. I am getting so tired of having to remove them.
Oh, what a wonderful statement to treasure, Richella!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story! And I completely agree. Not everyone will acknowledge or even expect the feeling of home...but when it is there for them, it surely is a treat! Visiting via Sarah's party today.
ReplyDeleteTruly this picture shoes so much more than just beauty, it shows the warmth, sentiment and love in your family. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAwww....sweet!! Having a 14-year-old boy, I can totally imagine how awesome that would be. Well done Mom! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat photo by the way!
