What a joy it is for me to welcome you today!
If we're friends on Instagram, you may already know that this is a special week for me. I just celebrated a very important birthday!
I turned 58 this week. That may not sound like an important birthday, but for me it is, because my mother was 58 when she died. I haven't written about this yet (still need to do some processing!), but it feels monumental to have reached this age. I certainly don't take my life and health for granted!
For me, part of not taking life for granted is to celebrate all the ways we make our homes and spheres of influence places of grace and beauty, so I'm honored to host the Grace at Home party every week. Here are some highlights from last week's party.
Are you transitioning from summer to fall decor in your home? If so, I've got some inspiration for you.
Shelley at Calypso in the Country relies on fall greens mixed with her blue and white pieces to give her gorgeous kitchen some autumnal zing.
Niky at The House on Silverado welcomes Autumn and her guests right at the front door.
MaryJo from MasterPieces of my Life begins the summer-to-fall transition by focusing on her mantel.
Want to create your own Autumn decor? Julie from My Wee Abode shares several DIYs to get you started.
Want to make a beautiful flower arrangement from seasonal blooms? Renae from Peacock Ridge Farm gives a step-by-step tutorial that you'll want to check out!
If the coming of Autumn makes you long for delicious baked goods, you'll be glad to get this recipe for apple bread from Paula at Virginia Sweet Pea.
Last but not least, if you struggle with comparing yourself to others, you'll benefit from the wisdom of Theresa Boedeker.
And if comparison is a perennial issue for you, I'd love for you to check out my book, Mythical Me: Finding Freedom from Constant Comparison. (You can read the first chapter here!)

Whatever you do to make your home or sphere of influence a place of grace, I'd like to hear about it. Here's what I ask of you. Please include the permalink to your post, not your blog's home page. Please let people know that you've linked up. No more than three posts per person, please. Note that if you link a post here, you are giving me permission to share your post, including a photo. And visit at least one of the other party participants--that's what really makes it a party!
Happy Birthday, Richella! Each birthday is definitely a blessing. Thanks so much for hosting each week!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Pam! Yes, every birthday is definitely a blessing.
DeleteI'm 58 now so I'm right here with you, Richella. My mother made it until 71, which isn't that much further now. I'm glad you made it to this age and may you have many more years ahead of you! I imagine it will feel odd if/when I make it to my mother's age too.
ReplyDeleteHow about that, Lisa?! So were you also born in 1963? I'm glad your mother made it a few years more than mine, but you're right: 71 doesn't seem very far from 58, does it? Thank you for being here!
DeleteHappy Birthday, Richella! One thing I am loving about getting older, is not taking life so seriously and celebrating what we have. Keep celebrating and finding the pretty in life and home and showing it to us. We need it.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree, Theresa! Celebrating what we have and not focusing so much on what we don't have is definitely a perk of getting older!
DeleteFirst, Happy Birthday to you! Thank you for creating this lovely space for us to all celebrate grace together!
ReplyDeleteSecond, thank you for featuring my fall post. I'm honored.
Happy Day,
Niky @ The House on Silverado
Thank you, Niky! And it's my honor to feature you here--thanks so much for being part of the party!
DeleteThank you so much for featuring my fall kitchen! I'm so honored to be included with all these pretty projects! Happy Birthday to you! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteShelley
Thanks so much, Shelley! I'm honored to feature you!
DeleteBelated happy birthday! In three years, I'll be the age both of my parents were when they passed. I confess, it makes me a little nervous--but I know my life is in God's hands. I hope very much to live past the age they did!
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of nerve-wracking, isn't it? But you're right; our lives are very much in God's hands.
DeleteHappy Birthday! May you celebrate many, many more! 58 looks great on you, by the way! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, Donna, aren't you kind? Thank you!
DeleteHappy Birthday! I am joining your party again - off to visit some posts!
ReplyDeletePatti! What a joy to see you here! Hope all is well with you!
DeleteAlso 58, and my grandson (age 6) informed me this week that I am the youngest old person he knows! 😂
ReplyDeleteI love that! I hope always to be a young old person! :)
DeleteHappy birthday to my sweet friend! You look way too young to be 58! Thank you for featuring my apple bread this week.
ReplyDeleteYou're so kind, Paula! Thank you. And thanks for sharing that yummy-looking recipe!
DeleteI just read the first chapter of your book. So good!! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Theresa!
DeleteHappy Birthday! I'm there with you. My mom passedat56 and I just turned 56. It's scary when women in your life die so young. It's happened to too any of my aunts too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting!
Oh wow. So you know just what I mean! Bless you this year and for many more!
DeleteThanks for hosting the party, Richella! And Happy Birthday to you!! I pray your next year is filled with an abundance of grace and joy! Have a great wek!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Julie! I appreciate that prayer!
DeleteHappy, happy birthday. And I pray you have many more.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I really appreciate that!
DeleteWow! I just read the first chapter of your book. Amazing! I am still spell bound. I know of several people that I want to buy your book for. When you are ready, I would be honored to feature your book on my website and in a blog post.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the feature, I sure appreciate you.
Happy birthday, my friend. Hugs and blessings to you.
My goodness, Renae! I appreciate this more than I can say!
DeleteHappy Birthday Richella! When you lose a parent young it puts a whole new perspective on aging and birthdays. I lost my dad young and when I reached that age I remembered it being rather hard to think of how young he died and how hard it must have been to leave a kid behind as well. I vowed never to complain about aging and I have celebrated every birthday no matter the age with a grateful heart. Again, HB and enjoy having another birthday.
ReplyDeleteYes, Sandy! It's so easy to complain about growing old, but I am deeply grateful to be aging.
DeleteHappy Birthday Richella! Another September birthday! I celebrated mine (9/6) and my daughter's (9/7) and for the first time in years we were able to spend them together. I wish you a wonderful year ahead!
ReplyDeleteWow! Happy birthday to you and to your daughter!
DeleteHappy Birthday Richella! I know just how you feel. We lost my mom at the young age of 47 and when I reached that age it was an emotional threshold for me. Hard to put into words. Wishing you a fabulous year ahead and you look marvelous my friend. Thanks so much for featuring our early fall mantel. XO- MaryJo
ReplyDeleteWow MaryJo--47 is so young! I appreciate your reaching out. It's nice to know that others understand how I feel!
Delete58 looks beautiful my friend! Sending hugs as you process this birthday. xoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, I was just 37 when my mom passed away suddenly. I had a 1 1/2 year old. I hate that my baby girl never knew her sweet MeMaw. At least my two older ones remember.

Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteRichella, wishing you birthday blessings for your continued journey in life! Your sharing that and your comparison book chapter gives such great insight to the wonderful person you are and are meant to be. Thanks for the having a place to come and share of home lives each week.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday and that you for hosting Richella!
ReplyDeleteI turned 58 this year as well….a little bit closer to the big six zero. My mother died this year so I was 58 when she died. She was 86 though and had lived a good and long life. Your mum was so young. I’m sorry that you lost her so early.
