Hi friends! I hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day.
I have a confession to make. I've kind of come to wish that Valentine's Day were a holiday just for kids. I fondly remember making mailboxes and exchanging cards with my classmates when I was a child, and I have great memories of helping my boys do the same for their classmates. But it makes me a little sick to my stomach when I see stores full of flowers suddenly twice their usual price or restaurant prices much more expensive than normal.
I don't want to sound like a Valentine's Day "grinch"—but I'm grateful that my husband shows me that he loves me every day, not just one day a year.
But for kids. . . what a fun mid-winter day! You can bet I sent a little Valentine's Day gift to this fellow.
And now, I'm so glad to welcome you to the Grace at Home party, where we celebrate all the ways we make our homes places of grace. Here are some highlights from last week's party.
Are you in need of a bookshelf? Meagan from Decorative Inspirations shows you how to make one from an old dresser (like this one she found discarded by a dumpster!).
Or perhaps you need a work surface for your laundry area. Jennifer from Studio 27 shows you how she made her own.
Do you feel like you need a mid-winter day at a spa? Niky from The House on Silverado shows you how to give your bathroom a spa-like feel.
Still working on getting things organized for the new year (I'm raising my hand!). Tracy Lynn from Declutter in Minutes has some great tips for you.
Need a new soup recipe for a cold winter evening? Kimberly from LouLou Girls shares a really yummy-looking Mexican Chicken Corn Chowder. I'm going to try this!
Do you struggle with handling rejection? It's a fact of life, but it can sure be hard for me, so I was glad to read this guest post at Dr. Michelle Bengtson's place.
Thank you to everyone who joined last week's party!

I *love* Valentine's Day! Like you, I hate when businesses use any excuse to raise prices and make things seem artificial. We've never made Valentine's an occasion for big gift-giving, though my husband will get me flowers from the grocery store and my favorite milk chocolate Lindt Lindor Truffles. I usually make a Valentine's dinner for the family with heart-shaped mini meat loaves and heart-shaped cupcakes and make them cards. We've always made Valentine's a family celebration. But this year my husband did take me out to eat the night before Valentine's Day, thinking the restaurants wouldn't be very busy then. We were wrong! A lot of other people must've had the same idea.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the feature!
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting, Richella. I remember those same things as a child and with our son. It is like every other holiday, it is centered around commercialism. I am also grateful that my husband shows me love every day!
ReplyDeletethank you so much for featuring our chowder! Made my day!
ReplyDeleteValentine's Day has always been a struggle because it comes 8 days after our anniversary. Not very good planning on our part! But the grandkids still think it is pretty special.
ReplyDeleteWe don't celebrate Valentine's Day with each other either. But thankfully it's because my husband is good all year round to do special things. If he wasn't, I might want to celebrate it. lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting the party, Richella!! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby proposed to be on Valentine's Day many years ago.
ReplyDeleteBut like your hubby, we show each other our love each day.
Blessings, Jennifer
I feel exactly the same way about Valentine’s Day as you do! I can’t stand the commercialism and much prefer a spur of the moment Flower from my husband any other day than the ones that cost much more because of a day on the calendar. Thanks so much for the feature-so many of us struggle with rejection so I hope it’s a blessing.
ReplyDeleteGreat party!! Thanks so much for hosting.
ReplyDeleteRichella, I am so sorry I missed the party. But I wanted to thank you for featuring my bookshelf last week. I really appreciate it. Your grandson is so such an adorable valentine! Have a great week.
